Summarize categorical data by another numeric field
SpatialKey’s Unique Value List pod provides a list of all unique values for a text field in your dataset. By default, the list is ordered by the frequency of that value in your dataset, and the count is shown next to each value. Alternatively, SpatialKey can show how these values are related to another field in your dataset by presenting an aggregate value of that field.

These two pods both show the Industry companies belong to (”Industry” field) from a dataset containing California Fortune 5000 companies. The pod on the left shows the number of companies matching each industry value. This dataset also contains an “Employees” field, indicating the total number of employees in each company. The pod on the right shows the total ("Sum") of Employees by Industry.
Here’s how to change the value displayed in the Individual List pod:
- Click the settings arrows at the top right (or left depending on pod location on the screen) of the pod.
- Select the topmost option in the pod options menu.
- Select any field (or Count), and then select an aggregate (Sum, Average, Minimum, or Maximum).
