Import data with X/Y coordinates
Sometimes CSV data files have X/Y coordinates instead of latitude and longitude. These coordinates are often in a local projection and have to be converted to latitude and longitude for display on a map. SpatialKey supports these X/Y coordinate uploads.
Here’s an example of a CSV file from the city of New York that uses local X/Y coordinates:

To upload a file with X/Y coordinates like this you simply select the “Use X/Y Coordinates” option when geocoding your data.

Once you have told SpatialKey to use X/Y coordinates you need to specify which fields are the X/Y fields. You also need to specify your Well-Known Text (WKT) string. The WKT string describes how we should transform your data to correctly place it on the map, learn more about WKT strings.

You can enter the full WKT string into the text area and we will use exactly what you enter to translate the coordinates.

Alternatively, if your file uses a common North American Datum projection (either NAD 27 or NAD 83), we have those available automatically and you can simply start typing the WKT string and select the correct one from the suggested list that automatically completes as you type.
