SpatialKey November 2009 Release
SpatialKey focuses on bringing the power of location intelligence to decision makers - without all the hassle. The November release focuses on delivering more of your "wish list" making SpatialKey a more powerful tool for analysis.
An overview of what you will find in this release:
- Find records near an address with the address proximity filter
- Compare two numeric attributes with the Bivariate map renderer
- Exporting aggregate data
- Linking to external websites from your data
- Import data with X/Y coordinates
Address proximity filter
SpatialKey's power is in its ability to filter data in many ways. By combining different filters you can answer an infinite number of questions then share this information with others. This release features a new approach to filter by location. Within a report you can select one or more addresses a distance and show only records that meet that criteria.

Bivariate map renderer
The Bivariate map renderer allows you to visualize the relationship between two numeric attributes. The bivariate render uses the combination of a heat grid map rendering with a bubble chart displaying the relationship between the two attributes. In the example below, the average home price is compared to the average size of the homes in square feet. This allows a user to quickly identify homes that are small and expensive or homes that are large and inexpensive. The color of the grid on the map helps visually identify the outliers or by mousing over the bubbles on the chart a tooltip appears over the corresponding location on the map. Exporting aggregate data
The histogram, timeline and categorical pods provide the ability to export aggregated data with the same groupings that were used in the visualization pod and can be opened in Microsoft Excel. For more examples see the following article.

Linking to external websites from your data
Associating an external webpage with a single record in SpatialKey is easy. There are many different situations where this makes more sense than importing all of the data into SpatialKey. For example, if you are visualizing real estate sales you may have an external site that provides details for each transaction and only import information into SpatialKey that you use for filtering. With crime data you may have a record link to a detailed view of the report. By linking to an external page you can greatly reduce the number of fields that need to be imported into SpatialKey and only import the fields that are needed for filtering. Import data with X/Y coordinates
SpatialKey provides three different ways to import location based data. The only requirement is that your data have at least one of the following:
- latitude and longitude
- Address fields that can be used to geocode your data (only supported in the US)
- X/Y coordinates and a projection string
